Overview
In 2023, following the sale of Downer’s Australian infrastructure projects business to Gamuda Australia, DT Infrastructure (DTI) was established. As part of the transaction, DTI needed to transition all operational data onto Gamuda Australia’s core systems within a defined timeframe. This included a major migration of employee and payroll data from Oracle Express HR to SAP SuccessFactors and Payroll Metrics.
Challenge
The project faced several challenges, including:
- A compressed timeline and limited project resources.
- Remote project teams spread across four locations in Australia and Malaysia.
- Complex data preparation requirements across multiple HR and payroll systems.
- Integration and data quality challenges between Oracle, SAP, and Payroll Metrics.
These factors required a robust and efficient approach to ensure data accuracy, consistency, and seamless integration.
Solution
DTI engaged Elwyn Consulting in December 2023 to lead the data migration and provide go-live and cutover support. Elwyn quickly integrated into the joint DTI/Gamuda program team, establishing a collaborative workflow and building deep solution knowledge across systems. Key activities included:
- Extracting baseline master data reports from Oracle to populate SAP and I3 templates.
- Aligning disparate data formats and value sets to enable clean and accurate transformation.
- Establishing a repeatable and validated transformation process for parallel payroll testing and final cutover.
- Cleansing and validating data against SAP and third-party master values (e.g., ATO Super Listing).
- Ensuring seamless data integration between SAP (HR) and Payroll Metrics (Payroll).
Outcome
Elwyn successfully delivered the data migration within the required go-live window, supporting the transition with minimal operational disruption. The cleansed and verified data enabled efficient cutover activities, while the established transformation process provided confidence in payroll continuity and data integrity. Key impacts included:
- On-time data migration with enhanced data quality and consistency.
- Reduced transition risk through robust validation and stakeholder collaboration.
- Sustained business continuity during a critical organisational shift.
